End-of-the-term

a) Do you think that you have gained or improved on your public speaking competency in the duration of ENGLTWO?
Yes! I think I have improvements in my public speaking because as the term ends, I can now express my thoughts on my conversations with other people. I think critically in explaining my points and I can now apply all the lessons we had in English two in my everyday life.
b) If not, why do you think so? What prevented you from learning or acquiring skills? If yes, what skills are these and how much improvement have you noticed?
I think I have improvements in dealing with my nervousness. As I remember my first speech, I was very nervous that time that I’m so much confused on what I’m going to say. Now, I think positively whenever I speak. I also assure that I‘m prepared when I face the audience.
c) For those who answered yes, What are the top 3 public speaking skills that you find most valuable and would like to continue to develop in yourself?
I learned in our English two classes that eye contact is very important to a speaker. I remember when I give my first speech; I lack eye contact to the audience because I always read my visuals. Now, I can say that I have improved my eye contact to my audience because I now use cards wherein I put the important points in my speech. I want to continue the use of cards because I realized that it was very helpful especially on my upcoming defense in my different subjects. Voice quality is also important because a low quality of voice or a soft voice can make the audience feel boring. I would like to continue the loudness of my voice but I will also control it so I may not sound like shouting the audience. I think, the most important factor of a speaker is getting the attention of the audience. By getting the attention of the audience, they would never feel boring in your speech. I would like to develop this factor because I think this is the most challenging part of the speaker because you must make the audience interested in your topic.
d) For everyone, what other skills do you think you have not had the chance to learn much during the term but would try to practice and acquire in upcoming classes in DLSC?
I think, I need to practice more on my self confidence because there were times when I deliver my speech I feel unsure on my construction of my ideas and words. Also, I need to use some pauses especially when I get blank than repeatedly saying something like “ahm”.
3. Is there anything you would like to suggest in the instruction and handling of ENGLTWO?
I would like to suggest more Field trips on English two classes because this is a 4 day class and I want other students to enjoy new environment because we always usually use our classrooms that make some students feel boring. By having these field trips, the students can enjoy more English classes.

Do’s and Don’ts in Public Speaking

Are you nervous reciting speech inside the classroom? You are not alone, many people have stage fright. For you to be able to overcome nervousness I suggest you first to create a plan so that you can manage your speech according to the way you want and also to be reminded by the allotted time for the speech. Second, know your topic well because it can add to your confidence levels when performing. As much as possible, prepare a note card wherein you can put the whole outline of your speech so that when you get blank you can easily get in to it. Practice at home much better in front of the mirror so that you can be able to correct your body posture, facial expressions and the tone of your voice. You must speak with confidence. Be yourself; imagine the people that you are talking are your friends. Persuade your audience effectively. Speak with conviction as if you really believe in what you are saying. Practice your voice in speaking out loud so that the person at the back can be able to hear and understand your speech. Before going to school, I suggest you to drink warm water than other beverages so that you can avoid drying of your mouth while talking in front of the class. Smile before you begin speaking.Take some time to relax your mind and gather your thoughts once you stand in front of the crowd. To understand your speech you must speak slowly and clearly. Keep most gestures at chest level. Using hand gestures while reciting the speech can also help the audience in understanding the topic to match or enhance your message. It is also good to use pauses while talking so that you can be able to organize your thoughts and so the audience can be able to hear your speech clearly. Imagine that you are talking to your friends. Having a positive and friendly perception of the audience can increase your confidence levels. Talk to your audience as if you are talking to a group of friends or to guests at a party. Eye contact is a must. Use the 3-second method, (look straight into the eyes of a person in the audience for 3 seconds at a time.) You can focus first on your left side, second is the center and the right side so that you can get the attention of every side of the room and so the audience can also feel that they are involved. You can’t catch the audience attention when you keep your head down in front of them. Focusing at someone sitting at the back of the room can also help you in lessening your nervousness and calming yourself. Add humor whenever appropriate and possible. Remember that an interesting speech makes time fly, but a boring speech is always too long to endure. Keep audience interested throughout your entire presentation. Leave your listeners with a positive impression and a sense of completion. Do not end with an awkward silence or say something like "I guess this is the end of my speech".

Pag-ibig nga ba?

"Isa lamang itong madaling operasyon, Jig," sabi ng lalaki. " Hindi talaga ito totoong operasyon."
Tumungo ang babae at tumingin sa kanyang paa na nakapatong sa lamesa.
Alam kong wala kang paki, Jig.
Anung gagawin natin pagkatapos?
"Magiging maayos din ito pagkatapos. Katulad lang ng dati."
"Paao mo naman naisip yon?"
Iyang bagay na yan ang bumabahala satin. Iyang bagay na yan ang nagpapalungkot satin.
Ang babae ay tumingin sa kurtina, inilabas niya ang kanyang kamay at sabay na hinawakan ang dalawang tali.
At sa tingin mo ba magiging maayos at masaya tayo?
Alam kong magagawa natin.

Opposites

One of my favorite games I always play is Plants VS Zombies. Honestly, I'm not that playful in computer games. I just learned to play this game when I saw my little sister playing this game.

Plants VS Zombies is one of the click games for little kids nowadays. The game involves a homeowner which is the player using many varieties of plants to kill an army of zombies. The homeowner, along with a neighbor called Crazy Dave, must defend the homeowner's/player's house during day or night, in the front yard and the backyard and even on the roof.
There was a variety of plants and fungi like Potato mine, Peashooters, Cattail, Hypno-shroom, Cabbage-pult, Melon-pult, Plantern and many more. All plants and fungi has its own unique offensive or defensive capabilities to protect the house.

Sunflower is one of the very important plants because it is the one who produces sunlight so that the player can be able to have as many plants as they want.

On the other hand, The zombies are the ones who destroys the plants so that they can be able to reach the house of the player. At the start of a level, the player is shown the various types of zombies to expect and to have the opportunity to select which seed packs to take in the specific level. The zombies also have a number of types that have different attributes, in particular, speed, damage tolerance, and abilities. The zombies will include those wearing makeshift armor, those that are able to jump or fly over plants, and even a dancing zombie that is able to summon other zombies from the ground.

I can relate this game in our topic opposites because you can never win the game that easy. You must pass the large army of zombies. You must do your best, strive harder so that you can kill the zombies easily. You must have strategies, patience and you must know your needs so that the zombies will not reach your house. You will win the game because of the learnings you encounter while playing it.

At last, this game is very helpful specially to the little kids because at a little age they can be able to learn how to be a responsible children by knowing what is their priorities in life. They can be able to fight for their rights. They can also be able to know what to do in such a case they encounter such problems and obstacles in life.

Don't Force Them

For me, Philippines is a very good country. The citizens were  helping each other for the better. I really don't want to use force to anyone. We must not force anyone just to be able to abuse their power.I want them to realize what is happening especially in our environment. The rice fields that planted long time ago were now with very tall buildings. They must use their force wherein they can benefit their force to others especially to our environment.  I can do many things for the greater good of society by not doing in a bad things. I can encourage my co-citizens in cleaning our environment. We can help each other by raising funds for the benefit of our environment just like cleaning the pasig river. Plant more trees!!!Let's Clean our Environment!!!

I can relate this story to my younger sister because she also have once difficulty in her mouth. She always have tooth aches. But in the case of my sister, she wants to cure it as soon as possible even tough she was afraid to her doctor.

A little girl named Mathilda Olsen had a sore throat for 3 days. She take it as a secret to her parents in order to escape with the dentist. The doctor help her in curing her throat by first asking questions to the parents on were the little girl got her fever. Then, they had predictions that may be she got her fever in the school. The doctor approached the little girl in his best professional manner but the girl still don't give any feedback. The doctor can't wait that he asked the parents' help so that they can be able to know where the fever came from. The doctor started the battle by using his force to be able to cure the sore throat of the little girl. At the end, the little girl give her trust to the doctor together with her tears fell after they finish the battle.
